The DayZ development team has officially shared their roadmap for the start of 2026. After a quiet January dedicated to backend development, the focus has shifted entirely to the upcoming Update 1.29. This update is set to be a cornerstone for game stability and performance improvements throughout the year.
Update 1.29: Experimental Launch and Server Wipe
The studio confirmed that DayZ will re-enter the Experimental phase in the coming weeks. To keep the community informed, several media events are planned, including a developer livestream, a detailed experimental release article, and a Q&A podcast with the Project Lead regarding the future of the 1.29 build.
Is there a DayZ wipe coming? Yes. A full server wipe will be implemented as soon as the 1.29 stable build goes live. While there is no official release date, the developers noted a “rule of thumb” that the stable version typically arrives 4 to 6 weeks after the Experimental launch.
2026 Valentine’s DayZ Event: The Cupid Bolt
To celebrate the season, the Valentine’s DayZ event is now live on all stable servers across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The event is scheduled to run until February 19th.
How the Cupid Bolt Works
The highlight of the event is the return of the Cupid Bolt. This unique ammunition is incredibly powerful as it cures all in-game illnesses instantly. However, there is a strategic catch:
- No Self-Healing: The bolt only works when fired at other players.
- No Exploits: Attempting to shoot the bolt into the air to hit yourself or using it during the F11 animation will not work.
This mechanic forces players to interact, creating a unique dynamic where a stranger might be your only hope for a cure.
New Loot: Valentine Eye Mask
Alongside the bolts, players can find the limited-edition Valentine eye mask. As this is the first time this event has hit stable servers, the developers are closely monitoring the impact on the “vanilla” experience.
With a server wipe confirmed for Update 1.29, the developers have encouraged players to “go nuts” with the temporary gear, as nothing will be carried over once the update arrives.
